History of Buffalo Prep

Buffalo Prep was created by community leaders in 1989 to serve two distinct, related purposes: (1) we help bright, economically disadvantaged minority students prepare for, obtain and excel in a demanding college-preparatory high school, and (2) we help private high schools recruit, embrace and take advantage of a more diverse student body. This program is now called "Secondary Prep."

Over the course of the 16 years that Buffalo Prep has been educating bright, minority students, we've recognized the need to offer a wider range of programs to serve different age groups in our community. And so, in 1999 we launched our "Graduate Prep" program. We now offer financial aid advice, scholarship information, a full SAT prep course, college tours, and college and career counseling.

In the summer of 2001, we continued our growth with the addition of "Primary Prep" on the campus of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. Through this program, we provide minority fifth and sixth graders with academic, cultural and social enrichment. We keep their minds active during the summer months and put them in a better position to succeed in school. This program will eventually embrace hundreds of elementary school students in the area.

Although Buffalo Prep has changed and expanded, we continue to remain true to our emphasis on excellence through hard work. And now our commitment to providing bright, minority students with the best education possible is stronger than ever.
